This course will introduce you to "Classical Literature," by which refers to the poems, plays, dialogues and histories written in ancient Greece and Rome. Although the era from which these works are drawn is remote from us in time, you may well find that what we are reading is surprisingly "modern," fresh, timely and, perhaps even moving. Or don't you think literature can be moving?
|
The works we are reading, for all their timeliness, are still literature. Before you go on, with taking this course, or with reading this syllabus, please read my views about literature. They will help you understand the goals of the course, as well as its daily functioning. You get to these views by clicking on the frog on the right. |
